About me

Hugo Queirós is a Portuguese clarinettist with a very eclectic path who has mostly been dedicating his time to the bass clarinet, contemporary music and improvisation. After his studies in clarinet with Nuno Pinto (Oporto – Portugal) and bass clarinet with Ernesto Molinari (Bern – Switzerland), Hugo took part in the International Ensemble Modern Academy 2015/16 (Frankfurt – Germany). From 2012 until 2015, Hugo was support by Caloust Gulbenkian Foundation.
Among the numerous musical events he has participated, it is worth mentioning the Eduard Tschumi Music Prize, 1st Prize in the 1st International Bass Clarinet Competition “Julián Menéndez” (Àvila – Spain 2012) and the 1st Prize in the Bass Clarinet Category at the 10º International Clarinet Competition “Città di Carlino” (Italy – 2012). As well his performances in festivals such as Lucerne Festival Academy, Freiburg Ensemble Akademie, ManiFest – Paris at Ircam, Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt , Impuls Academy, Klangspuren Schwaz, Wittener Tag für Neue Kammermusik, European Clarinet Festival and ClarinetFest.
Beside his solo performances, Hugo collaborated with formations as Ensemble Modern Orchestra, Lucerne Festival Alumni Ensemble, Ensemble Proton, Collegium Novum Zürich, Vertigo Ensemble, Grupo Música Nova and worked with conductors and composers as Sir Simon Rattle, Pierre Boulez, Matthias Pintscher, Heinz Holliger, Peter Eötvös, Helmut Lachenmann, Pablo Heras-Casado, François-Xavier Roth, David Robertson, Johannes Kalitzke, Hans Tutschku, among others.
Currently, Hugo is sharing his time between Portugal and Switzerland, where he is collaborating in different projects.
In his free time, Hugo likes to drive motorized vehicles, take photos and read internet articles and reviews about products he cant’s afford.
